    I recommend this product

Definitely a great introduction to Japanese Incense

What I found with Sheyeido it is much more different. In relationship to the Indian school of incense (which can be loud and in your face but in a good way). Any lack of 'vibrance' so to speak is certainly made up for by the level of depth and calmness you get by burning these sticks. This is clearly reflected in the quality. The core is bamboo-less so you only get the scent of woods, herbs and spices in the burn without any unnecessary smoke in order to get the most authentic incense experience. ALL the sticks have been rolled to perfection. There is certainly an element of artistry in the presentation as rolling incense by hand to this level of quality is very difficult, especially without a piece of bamboo to guide your palm during this repetitive process "yes I have been there before!". The packaging therefore is very important and Trent certainly did not let us down on this one. Considering were looking at 1.2mm thickness and shipping from Queensland to Sydney without having a single stick break, I am very impressed. The burn time is very predictable with 20 mins/ stick and I estimate the sample pack to have no less than 5 hours burning time as a minimum not including the chips. Dont let the size of these sticks fool you. I was very impressed by the long burn time. It took 40 seconds for the fragrant expedience to kick in, this is how it went. Overtime, the scent profile starts to become deeper and deeper. Each stick as a unique scent profile. For example, with pine, you can definitely smell that distinct camphor-like scent associated with pinene. They all had something in common when burnt. When we looked up the ingredients, we found that these sticks use a strong foundation of Agarwood and Sandalwoods which is why the fragrance tends to linger for quite a while. This is even present in the ash, i have never smelled ash after a burn that was this good. My favourite is Beckoning Spring as at has a combination of very light and very deep notes. The Byakudan Mysore Sandalwood is out of this world so I have decided to write a separate review. These sticks have exceeded my expectation in both burn time and quality, they are certainly not overpowering and you can really reflect and be in a meditative state whilst 'listening' to the quite deep scent of this incense. This sticks certainly do reflect the spirit of traditional Koh-do by bringing out the best of what Japanese incense culture has on offer.
